Remembering Donald Fancy

Maritime Reiner

Donald Fancy was one of the founders of Reining in the maritime provinces. At at time when there was no internet, no cable TV and very little media available Donald's desire to learn his sport overcame all. He acquired all the reading material available at the time and made regular phone calls to successful trainers in the US. There was no quit in Donald.

Donald didn't stop with riding reiners. He looked for good breeding stock, and raised a fine heard of horses at Blue Hills Farm in Lapland, Nova Scotia, just outside of Bridgewater.

The early reining years found Donald aboard Napoleaon King Cody. A stallion well known in the maritimes and seen in the video clip below taken in Sydney Nova Scotia in 1993. Donald traveled the maritimes and many of today's reiners started because they saw him ride.

Donald's next stallion, Smokin Doc Steel became a legend in the maritimes, winning everywhere he went and siring many offspring still in the show pen.

The expertise, inspiration and honesty Donald offered to the reining community will not soon be forgotten. His style, technique and drive to always progress will live on through those he mentored.
